Store Closing 11.15.2016

Dear Urban Attic customers,

In October of 2009 I opened Urban Attic and began the biggest adventure of my life. The seven years that followed have been filled with joy as the business grew and flourished. I have had the pleasure of being surrounded by amazing customers and employees, many of whom are now close friends. In July of this year I started a whole new adventure as I became a mother for the first time. After a lot of soul searching and careful consideration I have decided to close Urban Attic and focus all of my attention on my family. I will always cherish the memories I have from time spent at 1608 Bardstown Rd, and I am proud to have contributed a small part to keeping Louisville weird.

Thank you for supporting Urban Attic and small business.

With Love,
Amy Schuler Cundiff

F.A.Qs About Our Buying Process

Q.Do I need to make an appointment, or can I just walk in?

A. We have two “Walk In Days”: Thursday and Friday. Every other day we ask that an appointment is made. This helps enhance your experience by shortening your wait time and ensuring that we are giving your items our full attention. To make an appointment, call us at 502.454.8181 and one of our staff members will be happy to help you find a date and time for an appointment that fits your needs.

Q.How do I get reimbursed for my items?

A. We have three different options for how you can be reimbursed:

Buying Outright or “cash on the spot”. With this option, you get 35% of the selling price of your items in cash immediately.
Store Credit or “trade”. With this option you get 50% of the selling price of your items in store credit immediately.
Consignment. With this option you get 45% of the selling price of your items. We will put your items on our floor for 60 days, and mark them down 20% during the last two weeks. You will be reimbursed via a check mailed to you as the items sell.

For an in depth look at the policies, click here: Resale Policies

Q.What are you looking at when you decide what clothes to buy?

A. We take a lot of different brands and styles! Here is a short list of things we will be looking for.

1) Wear and damage. Clothes must be in new or nearly new condition. We don’t accept items with stains, holes, missing buttons, misshapen silhouettes, fading, scuffs, or pilling.

2) Older pieces that could fit into the current style. We know that skirt might be from the 70’s; but if it’s stylish and in good condition, we think it will fit into the modern shopper’s wardrobe.

3) While we do take cocktail style apparel, we do not accept bridal/formal wear or professional suiting.

4) We don’t look at brands until it comes to pricing, so we accept most brands! Here is a list of our top 20 brands to help you get an idea of what sells for us:

American Apparel
American Eagle
Ann Taylor
Banana Republic
Charlotte Russe
Forever 21
Free People
J. Crew
Old Navy
Ralph Lauren
…also brands from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters.

5) If your not sure, bring it in anyway! We are always happy to go through it for you, regardless.

Q. What season are you taking?

A. We take all seasons year round at UA.
Q. How does your donation work? Where do your donations go?

A. When you bring your items in to us, we will ask you if you would like us to donate the items we do not accept or if you would like them back with you. If you choose to donate, your items will be sent to One For All Store. One For All is a non profit consignment and thrift shop whose proceeds go to the House of Ruth. We can provide you with a tax credit receipt upon request.

Let’s Hear It For The Boys!

It’s 2015 and UA is working hard to revamp our Menswear!

While we are at it, here are some of our favorite new looks for Spring:

1) Jogger Pants!

We know we said we’d never take athletic wear, but for these jogger pants, we’ll bend the rules a little. Indeed, this season’s jogger pants bend the rules a little themselves, being fashioned as chinos with zips and buttons. Dress them up with a boot and or draw everyone’s eye with a bold patterned shirt and sandals.

And speaking of bold patterned shirts…

2)Bold Patterns and Colors for Tops!

There’s nothing wrong with a little pop! Start having fun with your wardrobe this Spring by taking a few risks. Chances are they’ll pay off.

3) Slip-On Sneakers.

That’s right, comfort and fashion can meet. There is quite a variety of slip-on shoes out there, so don’t be afraid to experiment with patterns, colors, and styles!

A more edgy look might be helped with this gray Chelsea Boot.

Or are you going a little more formal? This faux-leather Nubuck Boot might help you there.

4) Henley Tops!

As it has been said, all men look good in a henley (said by me, anyway).

These shirts are an essential for this Spring!

5) Think Slouchy & Slim.

Slim fit, but slouchy style. This look accentuates and lengthens limbs, and can be incorporated in to styles for almost any occasion.

Forecastle Festival Style

With Forecastle Festival coming up in just a few weeks the team at Urban Attic wanted to put together a couple of easy, breezy outfits perfect for spending your weekend down at the Waterfront during Forecastle.

Layering is incredibly important when attending an outdoor festival, and by that we mean layer as little as possible. If you’re a cold natured person bring something that you can tie around your waist during the day and then throw on once the sun starts to set. It’s important to pick light weight fabrics that breathe well like cotton. Polyester or silk items will trap in heat, which no one needs when temps get as high as they down at Waterfront. Unless you like swimming in your own sweat don’t wear incredibly right items of clothing either, this goes doubly for pants. A lot of our body heat escapes through our legs. Long maxis with high slits for the ladies and loose fit shorts are great picks for the guys!

Below are some of our favorite picks for Forecastle. Stop by any day that we’re open to have us help you pick out that perfect Forecastle look.

How To Shop Resale Stores Like A Pro

We here at Urban Attic realize that shopping resale shops is a foreign concept to some and to others it’s a trial and tribulation. Luckily for you we’re here to help! We’re going to break down our teams tips and tricks for navigating a resale store in today’s post.

1. First and foremost if you’re not familiar with how the store is set up, ask. All stores are not set up equal or the same, but here at Urban Attic every rack is organized by style and then sized from smallest to largest.

2. Secondly, be sure to try EVERYTHING on. Most resale stores do not have an exchange or return policy.

3. Always check for any wear or tear or any damages. We always try out hardest at Urban Attic to make sure nothing with damages make it the floor, but even we miss things sometimes. You can often times get items at a greater discount if items are damaged!

4. Don’t be afraid to try something on that you’ve never purchased before! At most stores, merchandise is over half off original retail price, which makes it the perfect time to try out something new. If you’re not sure how something looks, and you’re shopping solo ask us. That’s what we’re here for. The team at Urban Attic has 10 years combined retail experience, and we are more than ready and able to help you pick out that perfect outfit.

5. Don’t get frustrated when something doesn’t fit.  Most of the time there are vintage or older pieces in resale stores, and sizes have shifted over the years. When in doubt, always try on a bigger size.

6. Be sure to ask about new items that may not have made it to the floor yet. Due to the fact we receive items on a daily basis, items are often in the back room waiting to be brought to the floor, but we’d be more than happy to pull some pieces that would be in your size.

7. Tight on cash, but wanting to update your closet? Check to see if your local resale store has a trade in option. Here at Urban Attic we offer 50% off the selling price of your items for in store credit, more information available here.

8. Last but not least, have fun with it! It’s definitely not your usual trip to the mall, but you’re supporting small business and stimulating your local economy. If you’re shopping on Bardstown Road with us be sure to grab a coffee at Java before or after stopping in, it’s our go-to coffee shop while at work! Acorn and Old Souls are on the same block as us as well, be sure to check them out while you’re out exploring!

As always, if you have any more questions, concerns, or comments you can reach us anytime at!

Summer Festival Wear

With the first weekend of Coachella already having come and gone, our minds are beginning to wander on to the other music festivals around the country from Bonnaroo to Forecastle. The nice thing about festival style is that you can pretty much throw on whatever has been sitting in the back of your closet and still look like you fit in, but let’s be real.. who really wants to wear something that you’ve already worn a handful of times to something like Forecastle? So bring by those already worn items of your closet, and swap them out for something that’s gotten that worn in love from our closet. Not sure what to wear? Look below for some inspiration! Then bring us in some of your old items, and let us help you put together the perfect outfit. As always feel free to reach out to us at with any questions.

Urban Attic Happenings

With warmer weather finally deciding to take up residence in the Bluegrass all of our minds are beginning to drift to all the things happening around town in the warmer months, most importantly The Kentucky Derby! The countdown is on, but you’ve still got time to figure out the perfect ensemble for wherever your Derby plans may take you. Most importantly here at Urban Attic we’re currently accepting Spring/Summer merchandise as well as Derby attire! Perfect time to come in and trade out last years outfits for in store credit to pick out what you’re going to be wearing this year. Check out local blogger Lou What Wear below looking ravishing as always in dresses perfect for the Derby or anywhere Spring may take you! As always if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to our team at and we’d be happy to help out!
